Academic Writing Retreats

Give researchers the time and support to make meaningful progress

Researchers produce their best work when they have the time and conditions to think deeply and write without interruption. Our academic writing retreats help universities create exactly that environment and support researchers’ development, productivity, and well-being.

For PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, grant applicants, and academic staff.

In their own words

“I was amazed how much I got done! The writing sessions and goal setting were tremendously helpful. I realized how much can already be accomplished in short writing sessions and that I don’t need an entire day blocked for writing to get started. That’s what I’m taking with me: establishing a writing routine.”

— Writing Retreat, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU)

“I began the retreat with a vague outline and finished with half of my ERC Starting Grant proposal written and the other half clearly structured.”

— Postdoctoral researcher, Writing Retreat, University of Graz, Austria (2024)

“The retreat not only helped me make substantial progress on my thesis but also gave me new motivation and a clear plan for the next steps in my writing process.”

— PhD student, Writing Retreat, University of Graz, Austria (2026)

“I always thought writing without breaks was more productive. The retreat completely changed my perspective and gave me habits that I will continue to use.”

— PhD student, Writing Retreat, University of Graz, Austria (2026)

“I have never felt more supported in my academic life. This was, for me, a life-changing experience.”
